The association meets at SABL headquarters (Thebarton Ballpark) on the 2nd Wednesday of every 2nd month (August, October, December, February, April and June). The annual membership fee of the association was set at the AGM in June at $5. A Club Scorers Membership ($30 annual fee) is available to clubs which will register all their club scorers with the scorers association entitling them to attend all association meetings and scoring clinics free of charge, as well as obtain scoring workbooks and information on scoring issues, rulings and techniques.

The official scorebook recognised as the only official scorebook for use in all SABL competitions is the Australian Baseball Federation (ABF) scorebook recently endorsed by the Council of Australian Baseball Scorers for use in all baseball competitions throughout Australia. Supplies of the 35 game books are available through the SABSA @ $10 ea (GST incl.) by contacting the association President Lorraine Dunn. For those clubs who may have some existing stock of the “Statsmaster” scorebooks, the association requests that the new book be purchased for the division 1 and 2 teams and existing stock of the “statsmaster” book be allocated to the teams in the lower grades.

Scoring Clinics to teach the art of scoring are conducted by the SABSA during the off-season in May, June and July each year at SABL headquarters (Thebarton Ballpark). A clinic on the basics of scoring (for novice scorers) will be conducted on the 3rd Wednesday in October (15th) at Thebarton at 6.30 pm, however, should any individual club have 6 or more persons interested in holding a clinic at their own club please contact us and we will endeavour to accommodate your needs. Attendees at the ‘beginners’ clinics will learn the basics of scoring (Level O accreditation) which will equip them with sufficient knowledge on what the scorer’s role is and to understand how to complete a scoresheet, identify fielding positions, understand hits/error and record the score accurately.

An Australian Baseball Scoring Accreditation System has been developed and introduced in July 2003 by the Council for Australian Baseball Scorers (CABS) and now supersedes the individual accreditation systems developed by each state scoring body. The objective of having an accreditation system is to encourage uniformity and consistency with the interpretation of scoring rules throughout Australia. Scoring clinics on the national accreditation system are conducted by SABSA with scorers being given the opportunity to sit the qualifying examinations in May and October of each year.

Any enquiries about scoring clinics, questions regarding the accreditation system or clarification on any rules of scoring should be directed to Anne Bradbrook.
